Pops Memorial Junior Golf Tournament

Sometimes when I get calls from people wanting me to shoot events I am amazed at the ideas they have hatched....other times, I know its exactly up their alley, or fairway, whichever the case may be.
Barbara Leatherwood has never shied away from a challenge in her life I don't think.  I am convinced that the woman could organize grasshoppers to jump in sync!  She organized and brought in a USA Olympic Gold Medal winner to celebrate a small town softball program a couple of years ago and then a couple of weekends ago she organized a Junior Golf Tournament to honor her Dad who passed away almost a year ago.
Lonnie Terry was Barbara's dad, he raised her up to honor her parents and she has done that.  He took his grandson, Jake under his wing and taught him a gentlemen's game, Golf.  To honor his efforts to teach a child a game Barbara and her brother and her mother put together a tournament for the younger golfers who were interested.
Tee off for the little golfers came pretty early, but they got the cool of the day.

Barbara explaining the rules of the game to the young men and their caddies, which most times were their parents or grandparents.

It was neat watching the kids listen so closely to their parents/grandparents/caddies.  And the caddies didn't shy away from the task either.  They wanted the kids to do well and weren't afraid to cheer for the other kids their own were playing against.

This little sage bush may not mean much to you and me but to Karen Terry, Lonnie's wife, Barbara's mother this bush is a reminder of the work that Lonnie invested in the Snyder Country Club course.  He worked hard to make it a challenging course and a beautiful one.  The drought has been hard on everyone and this bush is no exception.  It displayed one underfed little flower but we all know that signs of life in a drought are still signs of life.  Sometimes life parallels the weather...things can seem dry and the signs of life are rare but they are there if we look for them.

All the golfers at Pops Memorial Junior Golf Tournament, 2012
All of Barbara's family.  Brother and wife and kids.  Mom, and the gang.
Father and son advice sharing, Jake talks to his dad, Terry about the next shot.

I love this picture.  The curiosity and wonder and this little face is priceless.  He is learning!
Loved this one too!  You can almost see the panic in his feet that he was going to touch the ball!

Did I mention that it was HOT!!!?????
 Game.
Fresh sweet faces.  Hot and tired but loving the game.

This fine young woman, Meagan Ross won the Pops Memorial Scholarship.
Barbara, thank you for inviting me to your tournament.  Before that weekend I had never even stepped foot on a golf course (I know, I know, thats horrible!) but I learned a lot and I really enjoyed watching those kids conduct themselves with sportsmanship and honor.  Mission accomplished!
