Summer Fun

Flying Lessons

This little ScissorTail is a new resident in our tree in the backyard. His mother was trying to teach him to fly when he was intercepted by our dog who seemed pretty intent on making his first flying lesson his last. The girls took extra special care of him, putting him back into the tree several times before he was successful and able to get back into it himself.

At first he really fought them but after a while he settled down and allowed them to handle him as they needed to.

This is mom and a sibling:
Emily was very brave and crawled way up into the tree and attempt to deliver the little one to his mom.
Instead of getting all the way to the nest she put him into a crook and let him recover from what I am almost sure he was considering a bad day.

It was fun watching the girls being so sensitive to the vulnerable situation of this tiny little bird. They treated him with such respect and so tenderly.

Twinhood

Just when I think they have grown beyond being twins and are independent girls, they become twins again. This almost always happens in the summer when they have fewer kids to pull their attention away from one another, the bond strengthens, then weakens in the school year.

All you parents of twins understand what I am talking about. They give you glimpses of how they truly are one in two.

Brittany & Bryson

Brittany and Bryson came to see me the other day to get their engagement pictures done. These two had to have been onto one another in high school, they both graduated from Ira several years ago and are coming together as adults now. Guys you look great together and I wish you all the best. Have fun in life!

Cousins Visit

The girls cousins came to visit from San Angelo this past week.
The pool was a treat to them, for the most part, but the water was so cold that it was torture to my kids who wanted it to be warm.
Apparently cousin Jasmine has no nerve endings. She loved the water and never checked to see how cold it was.

This was the picture of the day:
Emily has a pretty good grasp of the temperature of the water, what is so funny is that within seconds she had fallen into the pool here:

Jadon completely understood cold:
Thanks for visiting guys we enjoyed spending time with you!

A visit to the NCCIL

The girls and I went to Abilene the day after school was out to go to the NCCIL.
That stands for the National Center for Children's Illustrated Literature.
The presentation was the Wizards of PopUp by Robert Subuda and Matthew Rinehart of New York.
They showed the kids how to make popups which was really neat. Of course the kids popups were not as fancy as theirs which were on display at the Museum:

Then we got an added bonus: The Abilene Reporter News interviewed both Raven & Emily and then quoted them in the newspaper that weekend!
