Gerry Springer's Western Art

 

An incredibly nice man and neighbor of mine asked me to take pictures of some of the lamps, tables and wonderful western art that he creates in his barn.

I love this stuff, it is so Ranch style influenced.  He sells it at places like the "Rail Head Days" in Colorado City and at flea markets, and of course just by showing it to you and selling it to you!

Gerry is a one in a million human!  The morning I visited him at his home, just west of me, well...way west of me... he made me a frap, we talked and had wonderful warm fellowship for over an hour.

Thank you Gerry..you are a neighbor in deed...

Ira Homecoming 2011

 Homecoming in Ira begins early and involves a lot of people and activities.  Wednesday night of last week the community had what would have normally been a BonFire.  But, since that is illegal, an outdoor peprally at dusk would have to suffice!  The kids played games, cheered, danced and had a good time.

 Friday afternoon the festivities were in full swing with the "real" pep rally.  More cheers, dances, speeches and skits....

 It's nice when sweet, good, honest kids are honored not just for their consistent personalities but also for their dispositions, grades, and participation in community events!

First Responder of a Different Kind

We are pretty quick to reward our First Responders in our community with plaques and meals and thanks but we have another First Responder in our midst that goes without thanks but makes just as many night runs to hospitals, Lubbock, funeral homes, and yes jail to visit those whose decisions have finally caught up with them.  They do their work in a hale of gunfire of a different type which is sometimes harsh words, judgements, and our frustrations boiling out onto them and their loved ones.

But in a world of disposable people we have four men who have stood the test of time in Scurry County.

These four men share a combined 134 years of ministry to the Snyder area.

These men are:  Pastor Larry McAden, who began serving at Calvary Baptist in 1979 to present (32 years)

Pastor Danny Williams, Lighthouse Assembly of God, from 1975 to present (36 years)

Pastor Miller Robinson, Colonial Hill Baptist, from 1964 to 1996 (32 years)

Pastor Raymond Dunkins, of New Hope Baptist, from 1977 to present (34 years)
