Shawn and I celebrate our 24th Wedding Anniversary today. I have no idea how he has put up with me this long but I'm glad he has. We have always heard neat things about Escondida Resort in Medina Tx. It was just a beautiful place. This is an all adult resort that provides breakfast and supper each day. You are a short drive from Fredricksberg and the shopping you can enjoy there.
The resort is positioned in a box canyon and very secluded and there is no cell service. This is definitely a place to RELAX, not sleep and move on to the next activity. When you go to Escondida you are there to get away from everything.
The meals were excellent. Everyone ate together in a dining room and ate common food. They prepared one dish with sides and salad and served various beverages. After the meals everyone would disperse and walk the grounds, enjoy the weather and the wildlife and then disappear. And you would see them again the next morning. I honestly saw nothing that I would have changed about this place. The creek was natural although fed by a water well since all of Texas is enjoying a drought and you could see the fish in the mornings.
The property has a rich but sort of short history. It was built in 1969 by the US government to house people who were in the witness protection program. Then it was a family dwelling a couple of times and then Bob Philips, Texas Country Reporter, bought it thinking that he would live there but when he and his wife divorced they decided to turn it into a resort and built 10 rooms onto the original house, which you can see as the flat roof on the google earth map.
They have a workout room, and full spa with couples massages and manicurists. It was nice. I highly recommend this spot for a romantic getaway.
