Ira Homecoming Queens

Baily Nickerson

Mariana Ornelas

Kyrstin Baker

I had the pleasure of working with all three of the Ira Homecoming Nominees the night of Homecoming.  They were such nice girls!  I really enjoyed working with them.  They showed respect for one another and for me and their parents.  The student body chose one girl but they all are continually proving themselves excellent.  Thank you girls for coming to visit me!

Jean Sterling, Tommy's Mother, otherwise known as MamaJean

I have lived in Ira since 1998.  In those 12 years there are certain things that I have come to expect.  I expect for the lights of the stadium to be on every Thursday and Friday night during the fall; I expect there to be a REAL traffic jam in Ira every first and last day of school when the school board serves hamburgers to the parents; I also expect for Tommy Sterling to be at Sterling Grocery anytime I go in there to pickup whatever it is I just ran out of while fixing supper.
Tommy and Randa and their daughters and son and their families are as Ira as Ira gets.  So what a privilege it was to get to work with all of them one Sunday afternoon.  They are lively, fun, and in love with one another.
We shot at the store which is Tommy and Randa's home away from home.  The screen door, the ice machine, the old time coke machine inside and the cash register are part of the fabric of Ira.
Everyday at lunch the kids congregate in the side room and eat lunch under Tommy and Randa's watchful eye.  We all feel a little safer knowing that the Sterling's are keeping the kids lined out.
Thank you Sterling, Cagle & Wilson families for calling me to take your family pictues.  It was a privilege.

Fusion Softball brings Jennie Finch to Snyder

Normally I don't fly through edits but this job was cooler than cool.  The girls of Fusion Softball here in Snyder worked for almost a year to bring Jennie Finch, Olympic Gold and Silver Medalist to little bitty ole Snyder.  These girls WORKED to raise the money and the attention to get her here.  This was no small feat.  And what an honor for these kids to get up close and personal with a young woman who lives an exemplary lifestyle in the public eye, who has a faith in her Creator and a willingness to share her talents and beliefs with those willing to listen.
The weekend began with Fusion holding an intimate lunch with Jennie on the patio at Big Apple Deli.  They chatted, took pictures and got autographs from her.  They learned about her life in softball her husband and her little boy, Ace, age 4.  And they were greeted by a gracious beautiful young woman in Jennie.
Then that evening there was a banquet, which was open to other teams wherein Jennie spoke openly about her career, motivations and experiences.  A impromptu question and answer session even revealed how Jennie REALLY feels about UMPIRES!  (Her response was "Control the Controllables" and it was implied that Umpires CANNOT be controlled!
Sunday morning brought CHURCH IN THE DIRT where Reid Johnson of Colonial Hill Baptist Church spoke with Jennie about her faith in God and how he has directed her paths.
Then the cherry on top of it all was a pitching demonstration with her gutsy in excess of 70 mile per hour pitch into the capable mit of Snyder's own Amanda Parson, who catches for Lubbock Christian University.
Thank you Fusion for your hard work and for sharing this talented young woman with Snyder!
